Get Involved

Want to learn how to become involved with The MLC?

One of The MLC's greatest assets are the members of its Board of Directors and Advisory Committees.

Songwriters and music publishers guide The MLC’s work and are essential to The MLC’s success. For this reason, we invite interested parties to suggest songwriter and publisher candidates to serve on The MLC's Board of Directors and its three Advisory Committees: the Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee, the Dispute Resolution Committee, and the Operations Advisory Committee. Suggested individuals will be considered as and when seats on the Board or an Advisory Committee become available.

Both the Board of Directors and Advisory Committees meet regularly, and all meetings allow for virtual participation such that travel is not generally required. Members are expected to devote sufficient time to prepare for and participate fully in all meetings.

If you are a songwriter:

Candidates for the Board of Directors must be professional songwriters who retain and license mechanical rights for songs they have written.

Candidates for the Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee and Dispute Resolution Committee must also be professional songwriters. The Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee makes recommendations to the Board on policies and procedures related to the distribution of unclaimed accrued royalties. The Dispute Resolution Committee makes recommendations to the Board on policies and procedures for the processing of royalties related to works that are subject to disputes over ownership. Vacancies in these positions are filled by professional songwriters pursuant to The MLC’s bylaws. Board of Director selections are also subject to appointment by the Library of Congress.

If you are a music publisher:

Candidates for the Board of Directors must represent a music publisher.

Candidates for the Dispute Resolution Committee, the Operations Advisory Committee and the Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee must also be a representative of a music publisher. The Dispute Resolution Committee makes recommendations to the Board on policies and procedures for the processing of royalties related to works that are subject to disputes over ownership. The Operations Advisory Committee makes recommendations to the Board on policies and procedures related to the operations of the Collective, including the efficient investment in and deployment of information technology and data resources. The Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee makes recommendations to the Board on policies and procedures related to the distribution of unclaimed accrued royalties. Vacancies in these positions are filled by music publishers pursuant to The MLC’s bylaws. Board of Director selections are also subject to appointment by the Library of Congress.
